Curator’s notes

Australasian editions of the Pathe Animated Gazette combined local and international news items and screened to cinema audiences from around 1908 until the First World War. Newsreels were an integral part of cinema programming in Australia before the advent of television in 1956 and would screen before the feature program. This edition covers news items from different parts of Australia including Sydney, Melbourne, Warrnambool and Tasmania. Title cards are used to introduce each segment and identify the location and event.
