Curator’s clip description

This clip shows two women modelling the latest fashions in Melbourne – harem pants. They begin outside the glass display windows of George’s department store in Collins Street before crossing the pavement to enter a cab. In a later shot one of the women stands in a public garden and models her outfit to the camera.

Curator’s notes

The department store Georges was located at the ‘Paris end’ of Collins Street and operated until 1995. It sold fashionable items, such as the harem pants seen in this clip. These pants were probably quite a fashion statement in Australia at the time. You can see the other women in the street curiously eyeing off the clothes as the two models walk by.
