Curator’s clip description

Stanley has gone to get some of his mother’s infamously awful, rock-hard porridge. It’s the one thing that doesn’t dissolve in the acid. Unfortunately he meets the bullies the Lupin Lupes again, just as he is about to pour the porridge down the drain to Mary Jane and the desperate Drainlanders.

Curator’s notes

Stanley’s mother Betty Staines is a delightful adult character. She has a different and unusual job in each episode, each one woven into the plot somehow. Here Betty provides the porridge, a lethal mess made with much love and enthusiasm.

The Lupin Lupes – Gretel, Jack, and Twinky – are the above ground baddies, the antithesis of the three mutant Drainlanders – Vegety, Blubber and Herc, who despite being non-human have more in common with the Staines children than their real-life peers.
