Curator’s clip description

Kate (Justine Clarke) is upset when her friends find out she is adopted and is highly sensitive to how they respond. At a party, she thinks everyone is talking about her and, isolating herself, she drinks alcohol. When she is teased about being a ‘westie’, she rushes home in great distress. Struggling to understand what has happened, her father (Alan Cassel) is shocked by this snobbery. The scene ends with the family sitting in silence after a devastated Kate cries ‘I don’t know who I belong to.’

Curator’s notes

In this realistic scene, Kate is acutely sensitive to how her peer group perceives her as she struggles to deal with the question of who she might really be.
