Curator’s clip description

Lindy (Marillac Johnston) and her father Geoff (John Walton) meet Le (Quang Chinh Dinh) at the airport. It is a nerve-wracking moment for everyone. Lee makes an immediate claim on Lindy, calling her Mai, and thanking Geoff ‘You have been so good to my daughter’.

Curator’s notes

This is one of my favourite scenes in this film. The opening closeup of the clenched hands shows the nervousness and anxiety Lindy and her father feel as they wait for Le to arrive, then the closeup again shows their hands parting as Lindy meets her birth father for the first time. The camera is close in on Le’s anxious face as he tentatively asks ‘Mai?’. A poignant moment.
